Remaining Work Inaccurate

We are finding that the remaining work and actual work between the task
level and the resources level is out-of-sync.

We imported a project plan from MS Project to Project Server. We have
been live for three weeks. Resources are entering their time through
PWA and time is being accepted daily by the project manager.

We are finding that the Remaining Work hours and Actual Work hours are
not changing at the task level. When we view the resources, we can see
that actual work has been updated and that remaining work has been
reduced in hours.

One interesting note: For tasks that we entered later that were entered
directly into Project Server, the task level remaining work and actual
work IS in sync with the resource level.

Any thoughts on how we can resync our remaining work and actual work
and have it update as it should?

After you imported the .mpp project, did you click Collaborate - Publish -
Republish Assigments, select the Overwrite actual work entered by resources
option, and then click OK? You needed to do this to "push" the actuals in
the Microsoft Project plan to each user's timesheet in PWA. I'm thinking
that might be the cause of your "out of synch" Remaining Work. Hope this
helps.

I've been researching this problem here where I work, and interestingly, it's
occuring for a project plan that was also imported.

Fortunately, I've found the answer...
Here is some information I stumbled across regarding Managed Time Period
Feature and Adjusting Actuals (changing Remaining Hours)….

Information from Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Unleashed...

“Troubleshooting Adjust Actuals: Cannot Change the Remaining Work Field
when Adjusting Actuals

If your organization has chosen to use the Managed Time Period feature of
Project 2003, at times you may need to adjust the actual work entered by
resources after a time period is closed. You can also use this feature if a
resource is absent and you need to enter actual work for the resource.

It is important to understand that PMs cannot change the Remaining Work
field. This feature is only for changing the actuals reported by the
resource. The adjustment is sent to the Project manager who follows the
usual procedures for reviewing and updating the change to the project
schedule through the updates page.â€

Net.... resources update their actuals via the Remaining Hours in Timesheets
and Project Managers adjust actuals on the Updates page in PWA.

We are having the same problem, but the project isn't imported and we are
using a Managed Time Period. Any other ideas and any ways to fix it?
