"Remembered" email addresses

S

Steve

We will occasionally have a user complain that he has
changed the email address of a Contact, only to have
Outlook auto-fill the "To" box with the Contact's old
email address.

After confirming that there is no other Address book in
use and no additional listing for that Contact, my
question is 'where is Outlook pulling the old information
from?'

A file somewhere? Old emails? If so, will it drill down
into message subfolders?

Thanks,

It's pulling the information from a file with the extension of .NK2. That
file stores addresses you've replied to. As the user starts typing the
address that prefills, have them use the arrow keys to select the bad
address and use the delete key on the keyboard to delete the bad address.

Alternatively you can blow away the entire .NK2 file and start over but the
user will lose all of the good addresses that are in there as well.

If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, you'll need to search in hidden and
system folders to find the .NK2 file, as well as most other Outlook data
files.
