Reminders and Notifications on VPC

Hi,
I've instaled and configured smtp server on one server and all reminders and
notifications work. I've done it like they say here:

However, when I did the same on my vpc, reminders via email don't work.
Reminders in web access work.
What can be the reason?

VPC image; it includes steps describing how to set up a mail server within
the VPC for email alerts:
