Remote Resources & Base Calendars

S

Steven Douglass

I have several resources working on my projects. Some are located in the
Atlantic Standard Timezone (AST), some in the Eastern Standard Timezone (EST)
and the remaining in the Pacific Standard Timezone (PST).

I can have folks from each timezone working on the same project at any given
time.

Important: I work in the AST.

Is the best way to handle this scenario to do the following?:

i) Build the project plan based off the standard calendar (AST) with the
working days as 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
ii) Create a calendar for the EST team and assign it to each resource of
that timezone. Their working days would be 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM. (AST)
iii) Create a calendar for the PST team and assign it to each resource of
that timezone. Their working days would be 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM. (AST)

Something that I realised is that I cannot specify a timezone for a calendar
so I assume that I would have to offset the working days time according to
the AST, since this is where I work from and is the base calendar for the
project plan.

Would this be the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Hello Steven,

So sorry for the delay in replying.

I've got to say that in my opinion, your suggestion for a project
calendar set to AST, and then two base calendars for resources of EST
and PST is precisely how I would handle it.

Your tasks will initially be scheduled on the project calendar (AST) but
then as you assign resources from different time zones, their work will
adjust.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie!

Sorry for the pressure. I need to get moving on this project but didn't want
to do so until I had the calenders figured out. Adjusting calenders
mid-stream would have probably caused me some headaches.

Cheers,

You're welcome Steven and thanks for the feedback.

No need to apologize for the "pressure" sometimes we overlook a
perfectly reasonable question :)
