Remote Says FPSE's Not Installed / Server Says FPSE's Installed

I am confused as to how the server can say that the FrontPage server
extensions are installed yet I cannot connect into the server through the
remote connection being set on HTTP. Is there anything that could be
causing this? Do I need to re-install FP2003 again to try and eliminate the
possible problems?

Besides having the FPSE installed, they need to be configured on a per-site
basis.

-and-

to keep the FPSE in good condition you must always publish by using them. If
you FTP or any other method of publishing you risk corruption of the
extensions which will require fixing them on the server

First you should check and see if they are actually installed. There's a
couple of ways to know.

1. You could check with your web host
2. Try to open the site in FrontPage with File, Open Site,
http://www.domain.com and if it opens then you have them.
3. Open Internet Explorer and type in your domain name + _vti_inf.html

ex: http://www.mydomain.com/_vti_inf.html

If your site has the FrontPage Extensions it will say"

"FrontPage Configuration Information
In the HTML comments, this page contains configuration information that the
FrontPage Explorer and FrontPage Editor need to communicate with the
FrontPage server extensions installed on this web server. Do not delete this
page."

If you determine if they are installed then you may need to have your web
host run a check and repair on them in case they've become corrupt.

If you do that and are still having a problem you can get FP Cleaner at
http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm to see if there's a problem with
FrontPage on your PC.

I have checked using the "http://www.mydomain.com/_vti_inf.html" and I
got a "The page cannot be found" page. When I checked the server today
when I got home, it indicated that the extensions were there but not
compatible due to age difference (basically extensions or server OS was
too old for the other). I am not sure what else I can do except to
re-install 2000 Server and start completely anew. The web pages are
backup up onto another drive. But I really don't want to have to
re-install the whole thing.

What OS is the server running? When you configure the server as an
application server (IIS) there should have been an option to install the
FrontPage Server Extensions. That would have installed the ones that came
with the OS. If you can't get them to install on your site then you'll have
to re-install them. If you have the site back up you could uninstall and
reinstall without any problem.

Server is running Windows 2000. I have the web loaded into the IIS. I
have configured the server extensions (and it appears as though they are
loaded). But, when I check the extensions or attempt to update the
extensions, that is when I get the error about the age difference. I
will try and post a screenshot of the error as soon as I get back onto
the server. But I am going to dive into again tomorrow after getting
some non-extension-needy web pages reloaded into the server.
