Remote Sharing of OneNote File

S

Steve Ganz

I am a recruiter and working with another recruiter across the country. We
both work from home on our respective PC's (both with Office 2007 and OneNote
2007).

I have attempted to share my OneNote from it's default location and my co
worker trying to link in from the e-mail I sent to him gets the message
"Computer Name\folder\folder isnt't accissible. The folder may be located in
an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains
a / or\."

The file name is good and the folder is "Shared" but we are NOT connected
via a VPN - is this required?

We have set up a shared and synching folder using MS Groove which seems to
work fine for Word and Excel docs. Is dropping the OneNote document into the
shared "groove" folder a viable alternative?

Finally - is there some type of tutorial/info on the file saving/structure
of how/where/why one note files get saved the way they do? I have had
sections disappear and now can not find them anywhere (even using desktop
search tools).

Thank you,

Steve

You need to both be on the same local network to use notebook sharing.
If you're on different local networks, shared notebooks require a vpn,
or having an external SharePoint server that both of you can access.
Some of the other folks on this group can recommend a variety of
solutions that work in various scenarios.

You can use Groove, however, it works best if you're not editing the
same section at the same time. Otherwise, you will likely end up with
lots of duplicated sections. This works if OneNote is primarily your
data repository, but for collaboration, a vpn or a SharePoint site to
host a shared notebook would be better.
