Removal of a single Office 2000 component

I have office 2000 installed on a computer running Windows 98. For reasons
unknown, Excel is not running (perhaps it is corrupted) and I would like to
try uninstalling it and reinstalling it without touching any of the other
office programs. How do I do this?

Thanks

Perhaps if you told us what problem you're having in Excel, someone here can
suggest a solution. Uninstalling/reinstalling seldom fixes anything. But if
that's what you want to do, click on Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs | Microsoft Office | Change | Add/Remove Components. Click on the
little black downward-pointing triangle to the left of the Excel component
and change it to "Not available". Click on "Update" to uninstall Excel.
Then to reinstall Excel, change the "Not available" to "Run from my computer"
and Update again.

Whenever I try to open Excel my system hangs or I get a blue screen
indicating a fatal exception. All of my other office programs (word, outlook,
access) work just fine. This is not a new installation - I've had the office
suite on my computer for several years, and this problem only manifested
itself today after I exported some data from Access to an Excel file.

For what it's worth, I've tried removing Excel by the method you mention,
but am not sure it works properly - even after reboot, excel files are still
recognized as such. That's what I'm asking how to remove it.
