REMOVAL OF OFFICE 2004

Hello-
I just installed Office 2004 on my G4 and had some issues. I installed
it again, this time doing a custom install, choosing not to load Excel,
PowerPoint and MSN Messenger. However, now I have BOTH Office 2004
programs on my computer. How do I remove the original one (with the
excel, powerpoint, etc...) Is it as simple as dragging it to the
trash? Or do I have to do some official removal?

Thanks!

If you've managed to get two copies on your machine, I'd suggest running
the Remove Office application from your install disk (in the
Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Additional Tools:Remove Office
folder).

Reset your disk permissions after removing office (using the Disk
Utility app in the Applications:Utilities folder). This may take a while
if you've never done this before.

Make sure you apply the latest updaters, found at Mactopia downloads:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

Reset your disk permissions again after updating.

Thanks for your help...however, I have one more question...I launched
the "remover" but it doesn't give me a choice as to which Office 2004
I'd like to remove. I'm afraid if I do it, it'll erase both (hmmm,
wonder what the harm would be in doing that...I've only gotten a
handful of e-mails in the new Entourage...)

When you remove Office, your Microsoft User Data folder, which contains your
Entourage database, will *not* be deleted. It will remain in your Documents
folder, and nothing is going to happen to it. Delete both versions of
Office, simply to prevent any possible future erratic behaviour, and
re-install it. (Before doing so, however, do as JE McGimpsey told you, i.e.
repair your disk permissions.) The next time you launch Entourage, it will
check if there's already a database available, and it will launch that one.
You'll have access to all your previous data, since, as I've said, it will
not be affected by the Office removal.

Thank you Michael,
Just wanted to clarify that when I remove the Office programs that I'll
be doing so with the official "removal" software that's on my hard
drive....

Again, thanks for your expertise.
