remove a leading split in a task

I am trying to remove a leading split in a task according
to the MS knowledge base

But even following these directions do not work. Any
suggestions?

Hi Joe,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

You could try to copy/paste the task into a new project, delete it from the
old project and then copy/paste it back again. Failing that, try deleting
the task and re-inserting it.
