Remove command bar buttons or menu items in Word2003

Trying to remove some menu items for example "file search..." from the file
menu. I can use group policy and it will disable it (grey it out but it is
still visible). Is there anyway other than customizing the normal.dot file to
remove these menu items or is there another way in group policy that anyone
knows of

Seems to work the same as any other customizable app - Tools/Customize -
command tab. Click and drag the menu/toolbar item you want removed onto the
customize dialog. Presto.
