REmove FP Extension

For all sorts of technical and compatibility issues, we want to remove FP
extensions from our server but we still want to continue to use FP as our
editor.

After our host removes the server extensions, what is the best method and
procedure to uploading files to the server.

Are there any pointers or 'how to' documents for this process.

Once the FP extensions are removed, you will no longer be able to:

1. Open the live/remote site in FP to edit, etc.
2. Publish via http mode.
3. Use the FP Form Handler (write to file (txt or csv), send email, Discussion Web, Guest Book, etc.
4. Use certain features of Shared Borders and Navigation Bars
5. Use the File Upload Components, etc.

You will only be able to use FTP to upload, and if you every loose your local copy, then you would
have to recreate any themes, shared borders, include pages, navigation structure, etc.

Thomas - Thanks for the speedy reply.

We have had many discusssions over this matter and have toned down our site
over the months to make it usable for not having FP extension.

However, we still have the following questions.

When I turn off extensions, is it just a matter of putting
FTP://mydomain.com in to the 'publish' box and press publish ( We are using
FP 2003 )

Will FP know to upload only changed files ? Will it still warn me if I try
to over write a file ?

Can we use the 'synchronize' feature when pubishing ? ( In case a file was
FTP'd up in a hurry from a remote location )

What Files can I safely delete from my server, which are not longer used due
to FP Extensions being removed ?

Any other little tips ?

Might have to use ftp://ftp.mydomain.com

I don't know about this, but this is a feature that I would never use.

I would not delete any file, instead when the FP extensions are removed, make sure that the meta
data file are selected to be removed as well.

Personally I would leave the extensions, just for the ability to manage the site, which I think has
always been FP's strong point.
