Remove from Work Menu doesn't work

MS Word's Work Menu offers only one way to remove items.
1. Press COMMAND+OPTION+MINUS.
The pointer turns into a black minus sign
2. On the Work menu, click the document you want to remove.

This has always worked for me in the past. Now, suddenly, I no longer
get the black minus sign cursor. I have recently installed Tiger, but
it has worked since then. I have also recently installed Word 2004
Professional.

Has anybody met this problem? Any suggestions for solving it?

It works for me, so I can't really help you. A couple of suggestions,
though: first of all, you do hit the key combination BEFORE you click on the
Work menu, right? It doesn't work when the Work menu is already expanded, so
make sure you click on the Work menu entry in the menu bar only after
hitting the key combination.
Also, the Zoom settings in the Universal Access section of the System
Preferences seem to prevent the remove command from working properly, so you
should disable the system's zoom function before removing items from the
menu. This did at least work under Panther; I'm not sure if the problem's
been solved with Tiger. Hope this was helpful.

Many people.

You've turned on Universal Access, which causes the system to hijack the
CMD-OPT-<minus> key combo.

Turn it off in System Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse/Keyboard Shortcuts
and either turn off Universal Access, or reassign the keyboard shortcuts.

Alternatively, see

YES! I have now disabled the Zoom function in System Preferences, and
Word's Work menu now works perfectly. What a weird fault. If you have
any means of informing Microsoft, you can let them know the bug still
exists in Tiger, and they should fix it.

Many many thanks

It's not a bug. It was _you_ who turned on Zoom in System Preferences, plus
the keyboard shortcut there is newer than Word's. However, on the principle
of not fighting city hall, I expect Microsoft _might_ decide to change it to
something else, because the system shortcut overrides Word's. But perhaps
not - so many people know the old shortcut. In any case it would take until
the next major upgrade.

In any case, you have the choice of changing the shortcut for the new system
Zoom in System Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse/Keyboard Shortcuts OR changing
the Word shortcut in Word/Tools/Customize/Keyboard. There's no need to turn
either of them off if you want to keep shortcuts for both - just change one
of them.

It's not a problem Microsoft can fix, really, other than to create a new
keyboard shortcut (for which there will be no guarantee that Apple won't
hijack that one in the future).

It's not a bug. It's a MacOS "feature".

If anything, Apple should make it harder to silently enable Universal
Access.
