Remove headings, keep formatting?

I hope I have a quick question.

I'm attempting to copy a short document into a longer one. The shorted document seems to have rather randomly assigned headings throughout and I need to remove those headings but maintain the formatting, such as the bullets and numbers, that are in the document. Any suggestions for doing this without meticulously reformatting the entire thing?

Thanks!

You might get lucky. Try this on a copy. No guarantee it won't wreck
the numbering.

Use find and replace with the format È style to match the heading
style(s) you want to delete. Replace with nothing.

You might be out of luck if the document was built without recourse to
styles. If it were fairly short, it would not take too many false
starts before I'd give up and paste unformatted just the bits you
wanted to keep. That way you avoid poisoning your document with
unwanted styles and numbering styles from the one you are copying from.

Hi Lisa -

In a quick test here this should work if the headings have been formatted
consistently using a Style [such as Heading 3, for example]. Try it in a
copy of the doc (or make a backup first) to be sure;

Use Edit> Replace - Put nothing in the Find What field but click the Format
button, choose Style... Then select the style of the headings you want to
have removed,

Put nothing in the Replace With field & make sure there is nothing indicated
in the Format: area beneath the field (if there is, click in the field & use
the No Formatting button),

Click Replace All.

If styles haven't been used to format the headings you may still be able to
adjust the procedure based on the formatting used.
