Remove item from 'Work" menu

G

Graham Hope

Every year I ask his question - I must remember to keep the answer.
The instruction to remove an item from the "Work" menu in Word is the same
as the Mac keyboard shortcut to zoom out - consequently it doesn't work. So
how do you remove an item from 'Work'?

Actually you have several options:

1) Change the keystroke assignment for one command or the other (or both),
or

2) Add the Remove Work Menu Item command - I think that's the right
wording - to a toolbar or menu (I've added it to the Work menu itself).

Either of the above can be accomplished through the Toold> Customize...
dialogs.

There may be other possibilities as well.

Graham, if you would like to read a bit more about this (albeit entirely
along the lines nominated by Bob), take a look at 'Work menu, documents and
commands on', on page 71 of some notes on the way I use Word for the Mac,
titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are available as a free download from
the Word MVPs' website
(http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html). It covers, among
other things, taking advantage of the menu's dynamic updating, and what I
did when I experienced an inability to remove items from the Work menu via
the keyboard shortcut even though I had re-configured the Universal Access
control.

[Note: "Bend Word to your will" is designed to be used electronically and
most subjects are self-contained dictionary-style entries. If you decide to
read more widely than the item I've referred to, it's important to read the
front end of the document -- especially pages 3 and 5 -- so you can select
some Word settings that will allow you to use the document effectively.]

Cheers,
