Remove multiple empty Contact Lists in Select Names Popup

In Outlook 2003 when one is creating a new untitled mail message and you
click on the TO icon a popup window appears labeled Select Names. On this
Select Names popup windows on the right side is a category called... Show
Names from the:

It shows a contacts slider box. When I select it (3) Contacts appears under
the
Outlook Address Book. The first two are empty and the last one is the valid
contacts list. How do I delete the first two Contact options in the slider
so that only the valid one appears.

You can easily remove outdated or invalid references to Contact Folders
here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change… >

open the address book and go to tools, options. you can delete the extra two
from there.

Thanks Russ for your quick response. I had tried exactly those steps prior
to posting my request but for some reason Outlook would never remove the
items.
Finally I did it 3 times in a row and for some reason it took.

However my biggest complaint would be that when Outlook creates multiple
Contact Lists it should automatically number them. Because when you go to
delete one and you have multiple files with the same name how do you know
which one to delete. I just took a guess that the order they appeared on one
screen was the same as on the other screen. But I sure do hate having to make
such guesses as you could completely by accident delete the wrong contact
list.

Outlook never creates multiple lists. You do, but only if you migrate data
incorrectly. This is end user error, not Outlook error.
