Remove NIS Outlook plug-in...?

Kenneth

Howdy,

I run Norton Internet Security 2004.

I have it configured so that its anti-spam functions are NOT
activated, yet, the anti-spam plug-in still appears when I launch
Outlook.

Is there a (permanent) way to eliminate the Norton anti-spam toolbar?

Thanks,

Have you asked Norton? There should be some configuration options within
that program as Outlook has nothing to do with their plug in. If you have
already configured it to not be active, go into Outlook
tools->options->other->advanced and under COM Add Ins, ensure it is not
still loaded. Look under Add-in Manager as well.

If none of this works, close Outlook and find/rename extend.dat to .old.

Irritating isn't it? I'm amazed that Norton have not yet
fixed this but there is a way to rid yourself of the
feature. Go to C:program Files|Common Files|Symantec
Shared|Antispam and in there you will see a file called
MSOUPLUG.DLL Simply rename this file to someting like
MSOUPLU.OLDDLL and restart Outlook. You will now find
that the Norton antispam toolbar will not be present and
you can permannetly delete the antispam folder.

AC

Hi AC,

Very sincere thanks for your comments...

I had already re-named, but, as you say, it is irritating. I marvel at
this sort of "take over everything" sort of software.

All the best,
