Hi, Bob Z,
Differences between the two operating systems are not surprising, so I
wouldn't spend too much time comparing. The installer technology is
probably different, and the software may install and uninstall differently
depending on the OS.
When you go into Windows Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet on the
Windows XP system, what Office programs does it say are installed? Are all
references to Office 2000 eliminated in there, or do some still exist? If
they exist, then perform the uninstall from there. (You may need the CD or
CDs in order to uninstall.) An upgrade to Office XP might not have removed
Publisher and all its components. CAG was probably installed as part of
Publisher, which is mentioned in that article.
After you have uninstalled from the Windows Control Panel, if files remain,
you can use the manual steps in the second article I referenced. It gives
you all the files to remove for Office 2000 CD 2. It doesn't much matter
which operating system you use, as long as you delete those files. For
example, if you don't have a Windows directory, you may have a Winnt
directory. Otherwise, you should be able to adapt the instructions to your
own system. Ignore the utility and use the manual instructions, but only
after you've uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs (if Office 2000 programs
are still listed there).
I hope that provides a bit more clarification.
