Remove Office 2004 After Office 2008 Installed

Lynn Q

Hi there,

As I am happy with my Office 2008 what is the best method to remove Office
2004 from my computer? In addition, my Entourage mail folders for 2004
should also be removed. Can I just drag the Office 2004 folder and the
Identities folders to Trash? Is any other action required to remove 2004?

Any suggestions much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Lynn:

My strongest recommendation is to simply leave Office 2004 there. Every now
and then, you will come across an Excel or Word or PowerPoint file that you
won't be able to use in Office 2008, but Office 2004 will handle it.

You can just drag your Entourage 2004 mail folders to the trash. And you
SHOULD drag the Entourage 2004 Application itself to the same place, because
it will cause confusion if it is ever started by accident.

If you want to take out the whole thing, run the Office 2004 Remove Office
application, which will neatly and completely remove everything EXCEPT your
templates and mail folder.

But I would leave it there: Office 2004 has capabilities that 2008 does not,
and you may need them.

Cheers

Thanks for the response, John. I'll leave it alone for now... Just in
case.

Hi Peter:

Whereas I *wouldn't* :)

Apparently it doesn't work with OS 10.5....

Many of the reviews on VersionTracker are lukewarm to negative, and some are
downright alarming. I certainly do not want an uninstaller with "stability"
problems, that has a history of wiping a user's entire Preferences folder
:)

The Microsoft Office Remover tool does a very complete job, and it is built
to precisely uninstall the product it belongs to. It was made by the people
who installed the files in the first place. It does leave a couple of files
in place: and there's a reason it does that :)

The problem with "uninstallers" is that unless they were made by the same
company that made the application, their operation involves substantial
amounts of guesswork. When deleting things from my system, that's one place
I do NOT want any guesswork at all involved :)

YMMV

I would use appzapper just to make sure you get all files.....
