Remove Office Doesn't Work!

Hi-
We have a situation where no Office 2004 programs work -- all generate an
error situation. I went through the process of removing selected
Preferences files and disabled all fonts and relaunching and still get the
error condition.

I finally made the decision to use the Remove Office program to start over.
When I first tried it, leaving the Remove Office program in its original
location in the Microsoft folder, all it would allow me to delete was the
preferences files. Then I thought to move it to another location and rerun
it. This time, it did let me delete all of the Office program files and
it appeared to have worked successfully ... but it didn't remove any of the
files! And it said that it was going to put all of my personal files in a
folder on the desktop and it didn't do that either....

Does anyone have any clues??? Help!

Tia,
Jean

What does this mean? Did it delete them or not?

Did you empty the trash afterward?

It could be a permission issue. It is posible the permissions are hosed
and need to be repaired through Disk Utility...

I forgot to mention that I also did use Disk Utility to "Repair Disk
Permissions" prior to attempting the "Remove Office". Would that fix all
permission issues?

For the record, the "Remove Office" utility appeared to succeed (i.e., no
error messages) but all of the Office applications and associated files were
still sitting in their original Microsoft Office 2004 folder (in
Applications Folder)...

I was thinking of just dragging the entire Microsoft Office Folder to the
trash (and emptying the trash), then try to re-install. This is in the
hope that everything else that was supposed to be deleted, "was" deleted....

Thoughts?

Jean

That's the weird part.

There are several things the install process installs on your Mac:
- this folder
- the MUD folder
- the pref folder
- some more prefs (com.microsoft.xxx.plist files)
- some fonts in your ~/Library/Fonts folder

Now depending on what the errors you get are, some are more critical
than others,
A good trick to track down what generates the errors is to create a new
user account and see whether the problem is still there. If it isn't,
then it's either the fonts or prefs (or something in the MUD folder. If
they are, then it's the appls themselves, or the permissions, or
somethin in your ssytem (let's say a corrupted system font for instance.
