Remove part of Mac version

T

Timothy Mathews

In the Windows world, removing or partially installing the Office is a
breeze but now that I've installed Office 2008 for my Mac, I really
don't like the way Entourage works and it seems to have fouled up my
various other units in terms of the sync. I removed Entourage just like
every other application BUT it still seems to be partially in existance
as an Entourage calendar exists in my Mobile Me settings. Can anyone
clue me in how to totally remove all of the things Entourage does BUT
allowing Excel, Word and Power Point to remain fully functional?

Thanks

Well all you need to do is to remove the Entourage calendar in iCal.
When you activated Sync Services, that's what it used to sync its calendar.
It's not really a "part" of Entourage per se, it's user data.

That's what one would think but it keeps returning.

Then there is something wrong with your Sync Service cache. You can find
some troubleshooting tips there:

Wow! Looks like if one wants to use Entourage, one had better seriously
be into computers? As I read a lot of that, I had no clue what it was
talking about.

Might I ask, is any version of Entourage going to continue to exist on
the next release of Office? From what I've read, it's going to be
replaced by Outlook in all new Office versions BUT I haven't seen
anything which would indicate that Outlook will be included in the Home
and Student version. If I end up having to switch to Outlook anyway, I
think I'll just wait rather than spend a lot of time learning all the
intricacies of a soon to be dead PIM.

Well the problem is with Sync Services. It's the central technology
Apple uses for syncing contacts, events, etc.
Entourage support for Sync Services is somewhat limited and Sync
Services themselves are buggy as hell.
The end result is a fairly long page of various tips to workaround the
issues :->

You don’t need to use Sync Services at all to use Entourage though.
Lots of people never do and live happily with Entourage.

I don't know what will be in what, but I'd find it surprising that the
home version would completely lose the e-mail client. I would suspect
it's going to be the same as now, Outlook simply replacing Entourage.

Don't get stuck on the name Outlook for Mac will simply be an improved
version of Entourage IMVHO.

From what I've read (though it *may be* supposition), Entourage will be
gone. And a Mac version of MS Outlook will replace it.

my opinion - know Ms past record concerning all things Mac. It will be a
severely watered down/ cut down version of Office. I'd love to test a
Full power version of MS Outlook just to see what all the hoopla is all
about. My brother when he works use Outlook and Lotus Notes and sing
their praises. But alas neither is available on a Mac.

I appreciate what you're saying...it's as though we Mac users are the
Cinderellas and the ugly sisters (Windows) are getting all of "mother"
Microsoft's attention.

I'm on the other side of the coin, wishing there was a fairly basic
version of Office for the average person with the basics in word
processing, spreadsheets AND mail/pim etc. I still FONDLY remember my
first computer with Wordstar (industry standard word processor at the
time) loaded on ONE 360 KILOBYTE floppy and, to be perfectly honest, I
can't think of a thing I do now which I couldn't do then except for
entering the commands graphically rather than with a command line type
entry.

Anyway, I was astounded the first time I saw the Windows version of the
Home and Student Office and found no pim/e-mail BUT Notes instead. I
had to wonder how many students did NOT want or need a PIM and e-mail
program. I had hoped, when I moved to Macs and found that we home users
at least got some sort of pim/e-mail program that it would continue. ;-(
