Remove path of linked projects

Hi All

I have asked this before and Rod McGill replied but I couldn't see his
attachment.

We are running Project Standard 2003 and Windows 2000. We have a resource
pool to which projects are linked. I have added a column in the Resource
Usage view for the resource pool called Project which shows the project name
associated with the particular tasks. Briefly, how can I remove the full path
(\\servername\folder\subfolder\filename.mpp) from this column so that it just
shows the actual project name.

Actually Rod's name is Rod Gill. I don't think he's Irish.

What field are you using to show the project name? I tried it with a
test file, (Project 2003 standard with two user files and a separate
resource pool file stored in different directories), and displayed the
"Project" field in the Resource Usage view. All it shows is the project
name. The full path is not shown.

If Project in fact does show the full path when one or more of the files
are on different servers then there is a solution. Use a spare text
field in the Resource Usage view and either use a text parsing formula
or a simple macro to strip off just the file name.

back after the xmas holidays and my brain was not yet in first gear (is it
ever?).

Now, in my resource pool .mpp file within the Resource Usage view I just
added the column Project to the view. There are approx 30 resources and
approx 20 projects linked to the pool. These are physically located on the
same server as the pool file. Before expanding the resources (ie click on +
sign next to resource name) the project column just contains the name of the
resource pool - as soon as this is expanded it shows the linked projects with
the full path \\server\folder\file.mpp.

Any help with parsing and macros available - I am in no way an expert with
Project.

Sorry, I still don't see the full path. All I get is the file name. But
Project 2003 seems to be acting erratically when I try to expand or
collapse the resources in the Resource Usage view. I will consult with
my MVP brethren on that issue.

Since I can't replicate what you see, it is a little harder to develop a
macro to parse the data because I can't properly test it. The best I can
do is to emulate a full path in a spare text field and work with that.
However, I can't work on it right now anyway. If somebody else comes up
with a solution, great. Otherwise, it will be a day or two. If you want
you may contact me direct. It may be a little easier keeping track of
the discussion.

Thanks for this. There is not a great rush on this so I am quite happy to
hang on a few days. I will keep looking at this myself to see if I can solve
it.

I'll clarify how the "Projects Area" on the server is structured here.

\\server1\resource management\resourcepool.mpp
\\server1\currentprojects\projectfolder1\project1.mpp
\\server1\currentprojects\projectfolder2\project2.mpp
\\server1\currentprojects\projectfolder3\project3.mpp
\\server1\currentprojects\projectfolder4\project4.mpp
etc etc

And in the resource pool, resource usage view, in the Project Column I get
the full path.
