Remove Security from Access 2.0 so I can convert

D

Don Ostergard

I have a really old Access 2.0 app from work that has security attached
to it that I am trying to update to at least Access 97 or higher. I am
having a heck of a time, though, in trying to get in to remove security
from the access 2.0 app so I can open in Access 97 and perform the
conversion.

When opening in Access 97 it comes up with, "You are trying to open a
database that that you can not open in exclusive mode...."

I have deleted all .ldb files from the access 2.0 app directories, I
have gone in and looked around the app in Access 2.0 to see if I can
change or remove security from there but it has been so long since I
have been in Access 2.0 that I do not remember how to do it.

Any help would be great.

Thanks
Don

What you may have to do when you open the Access 2.0 database is open the
database the long way. Open Access 2.0 first then select the database,
changing the shared to exclusive when opening.
If security is user level, then you must ensure that you have admin
privileges with the username/password you are using and you have full access
at the database level. If the security is just a database password remove it
before trying to up upgrade to the newer version. Security should be under
Tools if I remember correctly. Its been years since I used a 2.0 db.

Another alternative is to create an empty db in 97 and import the tables,
queries, reports into the new unsecured database.
