Remove space after cross-reference field

Hi folks...

Is there any way to get rid of the space added by default, immediately
after a cross-reference, in Microsoft Word?

I 've looked around a lot and couldn't find anything else than the
obvious manual deletion, which is not good enough, as the space
returns after updating the fild code.
