HELLO,

Mac OS X.5.2

How do I stop the addition of the .doc from the save name?

It is added automatically... where do I shut it off?

Thank you

In the lower left side of the Save/Save As dialog - clear the check on
"Append file extensions".

The Unix operating system, on which OS X is based, is however much happier
with suffixes at the end of file names. In that sense it's very different
from OS 9 and earlier.

Its easy to do when you do *save as...* in lower left corner is a check
box, with show hide extension.

*BUT* I'd recommend not hiding the extension.
Often if a Mac User send a file with an extension to either a Mac or PC
user over the internet. The other user won't be able to open the file.
If the MIME type gets screwed up along the way PC's can use the
extension to identify the file. OSX is a for of UNIX at it heart and
while it can still use and understand the two fork File system (a
Resource fork, and the data fork, it also can use the extension code to
identify a file. So while its allowed if your only going to use for
yourself fine. But if you intend to share files, its not recommended.

I just can't proof I left a word out that changed the whole meaning.
I'll insert it in text below and make it bold.
