How can I detect and remove unused files from the published web site.
Images have built up over time, now I need to reclaim some disk space on the
server otherwise I will need to buy some more (uggh!)

How are you publishing? FTP or HTTP to a host server with the FP Server
Extensions installed?

Have you marked your files to publish changed pages only?

Or, have you logged into your remote site via FP and tried to delete them?

Thanks Tom for the quick response.

I am publishing using HTTP with changed pages only. I can go through one
image at a time and check for usage, then delete it from my development
directory. Then when I publish, FP will notice the difference and ask me if
I want to delete it on the ISP.

If I put an image into the image directory and do NOT reference it in a page
anywhere, next time I publish, FP will upload this unused image. Based on
that, it looks like I need to remove all usused files from my development
machine in order to let FP remove them from the server.

There is 112 MB of files reported in the UnLinked Files report and I would
guess these are the ones that should be removed but there doesn't seem to be
a way to remove all to a save area somewhere.

You could delete them off the server, and mark them as Do Not Publish on
your local machine.

One way to deal with this is to move all the unused files to a folder,
then right-click the folder and choose "Convert to Web".
This places the files in a safe folder, and effectively removes them
from the website.
When you publish, make sure you do not publish subwebs. FP should
remove the files from the remote site.
If you need to move any further files to or from the subweb, double
click the subweb folder, and it will open in a new FrontPage window.
Files can be dragged (copied, not moved) between webs, but future
maintenance after the initial hit will be a lot easier to manage.
