I have lines/spaces in my document that I can't remove by either deleting or
back spacing. how do I remove these without loosing my document? how do I
turn on the hidden codes that show every key stroke and function added to my
document?

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/CantGetRidOfLine.htm.

Word does not have a "reveal codes" feature; but you may find the Reveal
Formatting task pane useful. To display it, press Shift+F1.

Press Ctrl+Shft+8 to toggle the "reveal codes", ie show or hide the
non-printing characters.
Try to get used to having the non-printing characters showing as these will
expalin the odd behaviour in some documents.
The non-printing characters will show you whether you have superfluous
paragraphs, manual line breaks, page breaks, etc. or if your excess of
lines/spacing is due to something else, like excessive Spacing Before or
after, or Line Spacing.
Hope this helps.
