Remove Word without CD

P

Peter

Hi!

I´ve got the most annoying problem.
I need to remove a factory installed version of Microsoft
Word 2000, because it conflicts with my Office XP Standard
installation.
Word is not removed by installing Office XP..
I tried to make a transform file,(specifying removal of
Word 2000), and I tried an utility named Office 2k eraser,
but Word will not go away...

How can I remove the ***** program?

Thanks!

Hi Peter,

The problem you are seeing happens most often with OEM PC's that install
Word 2000 as part of the Works 2000 Suite. Your Office XP does not
recognize the different GUIDs associated with that SKU.

If you have your Works Suite CD available, you might look through them to
see if one of them specifies Word 2000. Using taht CD may help to do a
regular uninstall, which is perferable to other methods.

We can remove the registry information for Word 2000 with a utility that
cleans up the Windows Installer information for a selected product. It will
not however remove the actual program files themselves. It should resolve
any conflict issues you are having however.

290301 Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Read through the article to get an understanding of the utility. There ia a
link to download the utility about halfway through the article.

The file name is: msicuu2.exe

Run through the install. It is very quick and easy. It will put a link in
the Programs menu for Windows Installer Clean Up. Running this utility will
bring up a Windows that will list all installed programs that use Windows
Installer technology to install. Your Word 2000 installation should be seen
in the list. You may also look for Works.

I hope this helps
