Remove write-protection

In Word 2000, I cannot copy files to the disc in D drive. Message box comes
up telling to remove write-protection. How do I remove write-protection?
Also, I cannot format CDs. I cannot copy files to new CDs. Message box comes
up telling function error.

1. Never read or write directly from Word to CD: it corrupts the files.
Always go via your hard disk.

2. The messages you quote are what you get if you have a CD reader, not a
burner.

I have a CD burner. Just recently a new hard drive was installed, subsequent
to which the above difficulties have occured. Previously there were none.

The issue of the new hard drive is coincidental. Word should not be used to
write to CD media and recent security updates have contrived to prevent
that - because it is a ripe source of document corruption. Use your CD
writing software eg Nero to create a data disc containing your document
files. The disc will (as with all CD files) have the read only flag set, so
when you copy them back to the hard drive to use them, you must reset the
read only property from Windows Explorer (right click > Properties).
