Removing all formatting, including links

I know how to remove visible formatting with Ctrl+space, and to remove links
by clicking Ctrl+Q, then clicking on the Remove Link button. Is there one
icon or shortcut key that can do both—often, when I copy/paste from the net,
I find that a lot of text not only has links, but also underlining, different
colors and fonts, etc. Sometimes I do the Paste Special Unformatted Text
commands, but other times I forget. BTW--I’m using MS Word 2000. Thanks.

Paste Special is probably the easiest way. Remember that if you forget to
paste special, you can press Ctrl+Z (repeatedly, if necessary) to undo the
paste, and then re-paste as "Unformatted Text."

Thanks, Stefan. So if I come across any text in a document that has unwanted
formatting, I suppose I would copy, then delete it, and then Paste Special as
unformatted text.

I'll see if I can get a macro set up for this type of thing.... I'm sure its
possible.

OK. I was able to make some progress here. I saw on this MS help page that
you can place a Styles and Formatting button on your toolbar.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HP052612751033.aspx

I did this, and when I click on it, I get a window, but what I don't get is
any "Clear formatting" button. I realize that this page is for Office 2003;
I have Word 2000. Is there any way I can easily use this toolbar button
window to remove all formatting?

Whoops! That should be Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Q, Ctrl+Spacebar, Ctrl+Shift+F9.

Ctrl+A selects the entire document. Ctrl+Q removes all direct paragraph
formatting, and Ctrl+Spacebar removes all direct font formatting.
Ctrl+Shift+F9 unlinks fields. If you want to go farther, you can use
Ctrl+Shift+N to apply Normal style.
