removing an enterprise field

I no longer have use for an enterprise field. I removed the name so it is not
just an enterprise field. The problem is that it still comes up in the list
of field in Project Information (w/out a name jsut listed as Enterprise 3).
Is this because there are projects that still have data in it? If so, is
there a way to globally remove/delete the data in a field?
