Removing Custom Outline Codes (MSP_OUTLINE_CODES)

Hello,

A number of custom outline codes were added to our Enterprise Global
Template that are now not required. I would like to do either of two
things:

1. Remove the Enterprise Custom Outline Codes, or
2. Restructure the Custom Outline Codes' Code Mask (i.e. remove some of
the elements) for each of the Customer Outline Codes.

I couldn't find documentation on how to do this through Project so I deleted
the "unnecessary" records from MSP_OUTLINE_CODES (after backing it up!) to
test the theory. The odd thing is that when I open my Enterprise Global
Template, it still has the entries/outline codes that *don't* exist in the
database.

Any ideas? Are these entries cached somewhere? (I tried cycling the
Project Server instance, but the entries are still there).

Much appreciated!

After making changes to the Enteprise Global, you must always exit Microsoft
Project Professional and then relaunch the software. Doing so is the only
way to "refresh" the cached Global file with the changes you just made.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,

I actually tried that, but it didn't work.

My concern is that the "MSP2003 Application Configuration Guide" mentions
only deleting records from MSP_OUTLINE_CODES, but there are other
relational/dependent tables that need to be modified accordingly.

Appreciated,

To delete a custom enterprise field or outline code, you must open the
Enterprise Global and then delete it using the Organizer (Tools -
Organizer - Fields). Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,

This certainly does help. I noticed though that this is for 'task' and
'resource' fields (and outline codes). 'Project' fields and outline codes
are listed in the 'task' section (makes sense I guess).

This was very helpful!

The Project fields and outline codes are listed in the Task section because
they are stored in the Project Summary Task (also know as Task 0). So,
project level information is stored in a single task called the Project
Summary Task. To display the Project Summary Task in any project, complete
the following steps:

1. Open the project
2. Click Tools - Options
3. Select the View tab
4. Select the "Show project summary task" option
5. Click the OK button

Hope this clarification helps.
