Removing data source info

Calvin Crumrine

We have a Mail Merge main document that uses various delimited text
files as the data source. The text files are produced by a legacy
application & stored in dated archive directories-so the data source is
different every time the main document is opened.

Most of our users are strictly 'follow the instructions' people but
periodically one of them saves the main document with a data source
attached. The next user to open it is then presented with an
inappropriate dialog converting the delimited text file to the merge
data source-at which point they call the help desk.

We realize that this sort of mistake is going to happen. The problem is
that we can't find a decent way to remove the data source information
from the main document. Right now, every time this mistake happens the
help desk gets called over & over until someone finally takes the time
to recreate the main document without the data source.

There must be a better way. Any suggestions?

TIA

Save the read only attribute for the main document to prevent it being
saved.

Should have thought of that. Apparently too focussed on problem of
fixing it after user makes mistake. Much better solution to prevent user
from making mistake in the first place. Thanks.
