Removing Items from Drop Downs in PWA

I

irish_archer68

Hello everyone,

In a recent Administering Project Server Class I took from MS Project
Experts (taught by Tom Morrison I think) - he taught us how to remove
items from the drop down box in PWA. The box I am most concerned with
is the Project Center Views that are listed. I have removed the
Permissions for Earned Value and Cost, but the options still display on
the views list in Project Center. I tried to take good notes during
class but can't locate any info on removing these options.

Any help would be appreciated.

Once again - Awesome class! I recommend for everyone - and I strongly
recommend - from personal experience - to go through MS PRoject
Experts. There are other resellers an teachers out there, but these
guys are the best!!

Regards,

Sean

It was Ed Morrison who taught your class, not Tom, but thanks for the kind
compliment about the class. We all try very hard to maintain incredibly
high standards for our work, and is nice to hear your nice recommendation of
our services. Thanks! :)

To answer your question, remember this about Project Server permissions:

1. Categories control what you can see (Projects, Resources, and Views)
2. Groups control what you can do
3. The overlap between Categories and Views controls what you can do with
what you can see

Since you issue is controlling what Views people can see in the Project
Center, you need to deal with the Categories that give access to those
Views. First, ask yourself, "Who should not see certain Project Center
views?" For example, suppose you don't want your executives to see Earned
Value and Cost views. If you look at the definition of the Executives group
(assuming that is where you placed your executives), you will see that
members of this Group have access to the My Organization category. You
should, therefore, modify the My Organization category by removing the
Earned Value and Cost views from both the Project Center Views section and
the Project Views section. This way, your executives cannot see those Views
anywhere.

Do know this, however, just because you remove access to particular Views
for one Group does not mean that you are denying access to members of other
Groups. This means that your Project Managers will still be able to see
those two Views. If you want to deny access to those two Views to everyone,
you should remove them from every Category containing them, particularly the
My Projects category. Does that make sense? Hope this helps.
