Removing Marks for Table of Contents Entries

T

Tom Nies

I have a 1,600 page document that was assembled from
submissions by about 20 different people. After assembly,
I used a concordance table to automark entries for a table
of contents. The problem I have is that I have duplicate
TOC entries for the same words. For example, the TOC has
two entries for the phrase "GB cod": COD, GB, and Cod, GB.
There are several hundred page entries, making it very
tedious to go through and remove them all one at a time.

I thought I could get rid of the duplicates by going to
Tools/Options/Formatting Marks - All, identify the
duplicate TOC filed codes, and remove them by copying them
(CTRL-C) pasting them (CTRL-V) into the "Find/Replace"
command, and leave the replace entry blank. That didn't
work - I couldn't copy the entries. I tried using the
special codes in the find command to indicate a field
entry, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions?

You must have Hidden text displayed (so that the TC fields are visible).
Then you need to enter ^19 TC "your TOC entry" in the "Find what" box.

Doesn't seem to work. Searches the entire document without
finding the text I type in.

Here's what the hidden text looks like:
{ XE "COD: GOM" }

Here's what I typed into the "find what" box:
^19 TC "COD: GOM"
