Removing Office 2008 to install another licensed copy

I installed my upgraded 2008 on my wife's laptop not realizing that I couldn't install it on my laptop and desktop that I use for business. I probably should have known that. Anyway I purchased the Home and Student edition for her. How do I remove 2008 on her laptop to install the Home version. I've used the "remove office tool" but after I reinstall with the home version it recognizes the old license/registration number.

Thanks.

Yeah, same problem here.
I upgraded a HSE to a FULL edition and it did not prompt me for the new product key for my FULL version.

Can someone please share on where to goto to delete the old reg info so that software will prompt to enter a new product key?

I have the same problem. Calling Microsoft got me transferred to the Office 2007 department and I just couldn't wait long enough to get through.
I completely removed Office 2008 but the product ID is still around in some hidden file.

Make sure that the MS Office 2008 folder in applications is gone, and
also that you have deleted the folder here:

User\library\preferences\Microsoft\Office 2008

Then try re-installing.

I went thru and deleted everything Microsoft. The locations were at the hard drive level\Library\Application Support & Preferences. Also went in (as described by Dalya) the User\Library\Prefs and found any MS folders. Also deleted all the plist files in the User\Library folder. That seemed to do the trick. Be sure to make an archive of all your emails, calendar dates, address book entries, etc in Entourage. You will import that into the new install.

It might be overkill to delete all this but it worked for me.

"Remove Office" in Office 2008 does not remove license info.

Delete these two files:

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008
Settings.plist

where ~ is your home folder, and

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008:Office:OfficePID.plist

files.

When you start an Office app, you'll be asked for a CD Key.

If the above fails, please try the following
· Please delete \Applications\Microsoft Office 2008 folder And

· Delete User\library \preferences\Microsoft\Office 2008

· Reinstall Office

I have two Mac laptops to which I have, for reasons of facility, given the same administrative name and password. I installed HSE Office 2008 on both of them using the same product key. Now I cannot re-install, after multiple attempts at de-installing, in order to enter another of the 3 product keys supplied. I also cannot find any file with the User\Library\Preferences\Microsoft\Office2008 name.
