Removing pictures from a Word document?

Probably a stupid question, but I can't find the answer. How do I remove and/or
copy a picture from a Word document, and convert it to a .jpg or .gif?

Thanks.

If you open that pic in a program such as Picture program and there you can
save it as a .jpg or .gif.

How can I open a .doc file in a picture program? I've never heard of a program
that would allow that.
