Removing section breaks

I changed the section break to Continuous and then
deleted the extra page.
But once I make any change to the end of the file, the
document reacts strangely.

The whole document realigns, text area lengthens and I get
an additional line at the end of the first page etc.
etc. - and the document fits nicely into 11 pages,
instead of spilling over into 12 pages, which requires a
blank page.

I am guessing that my problems lie with the header and/or
page set up but I just cannot work out how to sort this
out.

Any comments?
