Removing spaces in hyperlinks during mail merge

Jim Dendler

I'm trying to use mail merge in Word 2000 to send emails
that contain a personalized hyperlink that contains the
person's address.

For example:
http://www.test.com/link.html?address=400 Park Place

The data source is an Excel spreadsheet with the following
in the address field:
400 Park Place

The mail merge creates the link as:
http://www.test.com/link.html?address=400 Park Place

and the link doesn't work because of the spaces.

Is there any way to translate the space characters during
the mail merge?

Hi Jim,

No, there's no way to change the spaces during the mail
merge. Would removing the spaces even result in a valid
hyperlink?

I'd try selecting that column in Excel (or make a copy of the
column for mail merge purposes) and then use Find/Replace to
replace the space with 20% (I think that's what the Internet
uses... or is it %20)
