Removing trailing separator

Hi. I am writing a lab guide, using LISTNUM/AUTONUM in the chapter and
sub-section heading.
Lab 1 (Heading 1)
Lab 1-1 (Heading 2)
Lab 1-2 (Heading 2)
Lab 2 (Heading 1)
Lab 2-1 (Heading 2)
etc...

However, when I use AUTONUMLGL or LISTNUM-LegalDefault, I end up with
trailing separators on them:
Lab 1-
Lab 1-1- (or Lab 1.1.)

Two questions:
1) The Help encourages ListNum, but I want to specify the dash as a
separator. Is that possible, or must I stick with AUTONUM?
2) In either case, how do I get rid of the trailing character without having
to manuall remove every single one?

Hi Erich,

Create a named list template, with the numbering you want (Lab 1 for level 1,
Lab 1-1 for level 2).
Don't attach it to the heading styles, but give it a name (bottom left of the
expanded dialog).

Then you can use that list template in your LISTNUM fields.
