removing transitions from powerpoint slides

I am editing a powerpoint doc that has slide transitions. I would like to
remove these transitions but there is no readily apparent way to do it. I
even tried copying a graphic on the slide and then deleting it. When I paste
the graphic into a new slide the transition returns. How do I get rid of them?

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? It sounds like animations rather
than slide transitions (animations are things that happen on a slide,
transitions are how one slide changes into the next slide) but they are
controlled differently in different versions.

Sounds like you mean animations - Try Slide Show > Set up Show > Show without
animations to change the whole show OR select the graphic > slide show >
custom animation > remove (XP / 2003) no effect (2000) for just that graphic.

Did that answer the question / help?

If you want to globally remove slide transitions:
- Go to Slide Sorter
- Hit Ctrl a (to select all slides)
- Right click any of the slides
- Select Slide Transition (task bar will appear)
- Select "No Transition"
- Click "Apply to All Slides"

Hope that helps you.

Thanks Lucy - you're absolutely right - I was dealing with animations not
transitions.
