removing underlined words

In Word, I need to remove all the words that are
underlined throughout a document (not just remove the
underlines; but remove all the "words" that are
underlined, as well as remove the underlines themselves).
Also, I need to remove all the words between
parenthesis, as well as the parenthesis, "(", ")",
themselves, throughout an entire document.
How can I do this?

I quickly looked at the advanced features of the Edit Replace and can't
spot a way to search for underlined words. Maybe you can re-check this
on your version.

Assuming not there, then all your needs can be met by the simple way
which is to do it by hand.

That probably is not good enough ... so the next most complicated way is
to write macros which search through each word, looked for any
underlining formats and if there, remove it.

Same for the parenthesis problem ... each for matching parentheses and
select and remove the text inside.

In at least the last few versions of Word, you can search for formatting in
the Find/Replace dialog. Click on More..., then use the Format drop-down
menu.

Check this NG and Help for the phrase "wildcard searches", as I think for
the underline, you could do a wildcard search to find any text formatted as
underline and replace it with nothing. Parentheses, can't help there, but
I suspect a more expert person may be along to offer more advice eventually.

To replace delete underlined text. In the Find and Replace dialog:

1. In the "Find what" box, type * and press Ctrl+U. Check the box for "Use
wildcards."

2. Leave the "Replace with" box blank.

3. Replace All.

You can also do this without wildcards by typing ^? in the "Find what" box.

To remove words in parentheses:

1. In the "Find what" box, type \(*\) and check the "Use wildcards" box.

2. Leave the "Replace with" box blank.

3. Replace All.
