Removing Word Templates

J

jay

Hi All,

I must be getting senile in my old age, I thaught I knew how to do this
years ago.

How can the standard word templates (contempory fax etc etc etc) be removed
such that when a user clicks file > new they only see corporate templates?

regards,

Jay

My recollection is that the additional tabs in the template dialog cannot be
removed as they are created internally by Word.

Hi Jay,

The standard Word templates in later versions of Word have to be
uninstalled (through Control Panel etc.)

Thanks Tammy,

I thaught that was going to be the case, I was trying to get away without
reconfiguring individual workstations. I'm sure you used to be able to
control the templates by just deleting the dot files from
%wordsystempath%\templates (or wherever location they may be) a much better
solution imho, but there it is eh

Am looking at the other solution you posted, i'm very interested in the ini
file solution, I may well contact you for more details in due course if you
don't mind.

Kind regards,

Jay

Hi Jay,

Earlier versions of Word did allow you to remove the templates by
physically deleting the .dot files. Not sure why they changed it! I
had the same problem trying to remove them - it took ages to work it
out.

Feel free to contact me. The ini file solution works well for us and
is nice and quick!

Cheers,
Tammy
