Rename slide masters

I am using PWP 2003 on Windows Vista. I have created a template .POT with
four master slides. I have renamed and protected each on the masters. When I
open the template the master names are intact but if I create a NEW
presentation from the template then the name of the first slide master
reverts to the name of the template. I have tried chnaging the default slide
master so that when I save the template I don't use the first master on any
of the slides but this does not make any difference. Any ideas of a way
around this?

I've tried it on 2003 sp3 on XP Pro SP2 and I still can not get it to do as
I want and as you seem to suggest.

1. create a new presentation
2. in master view rename slide master
3. save presentation as design template .POT
4. create a new presentation from the .POT file by using File, New (or
whatever)

The name of the "design" on the status bar is the name of the POT file and
in master view the name of the slide master is the name of the POT file and
in Slide Design task pane the name of the slide miniture is the name of the
POT file. The renamed master is lost.

However, if the start a new presentation from the blank template and then
apply the custom POT after then it does show the renamed master.

It therefore seems pointless to rename the first master slide in a template.

Hi David

Here I can either open a new file with the default pot and apply my template
or New > From my template In both cases the names of the masters are all
retained. If you email me I'll send the pot file for you to see what happens
there. The name in the status bar is the name or the master slide in use BTW.

John, I've tried this always on several PCs and it always renames the first
master slide to the name of the template. PLease send your example.
