Renaming Files in Explorer

Can anyone tell me how to batch process renaming files in
Explorer? They are in multiple folders and one at a time
is making me crazy.
Thank you.

Hi Elaine,

Can you give us an example of what the naming
structure you'd like to change is in a 'From' 'to'
approach? When you mention a 'batch' change that
would tend to indicate that all of the names
you're considering changing have some element in
common to the names perhaps?

Are these document files or ????

I am embarrassed to say I never learned them. <<

They are all Word documents in different project files.

In some cases the change is just to add a space between
words, as
FROM: projectreview.doc
TO: project review.doc

In other cases, the change is to delete a few letters or
numbers from the beginning, as
FROM: 250 project review.doc
TO: project review.doc

In case your wondering, it isn't my idea to make these
little changes. It's government work.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi Elaine,

If the renaming is not consistent then I don't see how you can perform
a batch rename. The REN command I was referring to needs to have
something in common. For example: rename all files in a folder with a
*.doc extension to *.bak extension:

REN *.doc *.bak

You might have more luck using one of the utilizes Mike recommended.
