Renaming Project Server and Site

Mr. Mike Glen told me to post over here as the pro and server group is
supposedly closing down. By the way Mr. Glen, if you keep referring
people to FAQ #24, you should probably update it, as it still tells
people they can go to the other groups.

---------------------------------- So, here's my question

We named our server and project site: Server1 (example)

So, to access PWA... http://server1.domain.com/pwa

We'd like to rename everything to Server2

So to access PWA... http://server2.domain.com/pwa

What are the ramifications to PWA, and sharepoint services workspaces
if we do this?

(Project Server 2007 running on Windows '03 IIS 6)

becasue the hyperlinks will point to the old server name, you'll have to
create Alternative Access Mapping in Central Admin so WSS will use the new
name.

You could do a farm backup/restore which would involve removing wss/ps2007
from the server.

if SQL is also on the same box, you will have to drop the SQL name. see

As I read FAQ#24, the three current newsgroups are clearly identified and
which one you should use is clearly stated. If you don't see this, please
post what you're seeing and where the conflict is. Thanks.

If SQL is on a seperate box, will there be a need to still update
anything?
