Renaming Queries

To All,

I have been having some difficulties renaming queries. For example, I have a
query named QRY-A. The dynaset created by this query is read by QRY-B. The
dynaset created by this query is read by QRY-C.

I would like to rename these queries as QRY-A1, QRY-B1 and QRY-C1. The
actual query is not changing only the name.

Is there a way to change the names without almost recreating the queries, as
I am doing now?

Any help would be much appreciated, especially if it can be done through the
query grid.

Greg,

A little confused... where exactly are you tryig to rename these queries.
Renaming from the Database Container window should not be a problem. You
cannot rename them via the Query Grid window, unless I missed something and
I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Gina,

I can go to the container for queries and see all the queries in the
database.

If I change the name of the queries from QRY- A to QRY-A1 and QRY-B to
QRY_B1, the queries are renamed but when I run QRY-B1, internally it is
looking for the QRY- A(renamed to A1).

Is there a way to change the name internally without moving all the fields
individually (again)?

Greg,

NOW I understand and you need to check out Dale's reply because depending on
our version of Access (Not available in all versions) that feature does more
harm then good.

Gina,

I've never had a problem with it, although you do have to be attentive to
what you are doing.

Dale,

It's the 'attentive' part. When you have a database that is moving up on
table quantity I would sometimes forget a spot... VERY bad for Client and I
have seen some of the issues here. Now I am not refering to Rick Fisher's
product... I used that before and do LOVE it.

Gina,

I used to use Speed Ferret, found it super easy to use, and a huge time
saver, but they never upgraded it to work with Office 2003, so I gave up on
it.

I find both Speed Ferret and Rick's tool to be huge time savers, especially
when a client wants to change a word in a caption or something like that, or
worse, when someone creates a query as a rowsource for a control, but doesn't
save the query.

Dale,

Never tried Speed Ferret but since it doesn't work with Office 2003 that
probably means it won't work with 2007 either so no need to even look at it.

I always do love it when the Client changes the field name on me (NOT).
Captions not such a big deal. I don't let Clients 'create' queries or
anything else for that matter. I explain the domino effect and even
demonstrate for the ones that THINK it won't make a difference, usually
works!

My reference to "someone creating a query as the rowsource of a control" was
about databases I've inherited, and had to clean up.

Before I got Speed Ferret, trying to find all of those pesky SQL statements
was a real pain in the a--.
