Renaming Userproperties

Is there a way in code or otherwise that a userproperty can be renamed? I
have custom forms that have been developed and are in use, and the customer
simply wants to have the field renamed (Something more obvious to end-users
when using field-chooser in defning views). I'm trying to avoid having to
create a new field and then migrating the existing data into that new field.
Any Ideas?
