Reorder pages

R

RSunday

I have inserted a new page in my Visio document.
Page1 has no background.
Page2 has page1 as background
Page3 has page2 as background.

The page tabs are arranged: page1, page 3, page 2 - so I want to move page 2.

But I cant drag page2, and when right-clicking and selecting "reorder
pages", none of the pages show up on the list.

What do I do?

From your description, it appears that Page 3 is the only real page, Page 1
and Page 2 are background pages. Only foreground pages can be rearranged.

The page order 1,3,2 seems a bit strange. Visio lets you rearrange the
foreground pages and leaves the background pages to the right of the
foreground pages. So if page 3 is a foreground page, Page 1 should not be to
the left of Page if it is a background page. In Page Setup check to see what
these pages are defind as (foreground or background)

You can also use the Drawing Explorer window to re-order pages....

You are right about the pages being background pages.

I use the various backgrounds to make different versions of the same
diagram. On some I show some text and on some I show something else -
depending on who is to use it. By having many nested backgounds I am very
flexible in chosing what to show. But there is a natural order of these
backgrounds not matching the order I inserted them in (as they were created
when they were needed) - but I apparently cant rearrange them.

So in the future I apparently have to have thought out everything from the
beginning, so that I create the right sequence of backgrounds up front. But I
dont think I will be that smart....

Though I have not tried it fully,
1) Remove all the references to the background pages.
2) Change the background pages to foreground pages.
3) Reorder the pages.
4) Change the original background pages back to background pages
5) Add the references back in for the background pages.

When doing step 5, the background pages are added to the right, but in front
of any existing background pages, so start with the background page you want
on the far right hand side.
