Repair/Compact Access 2000 Problem

I was repairing/compacting Access 2000 database due to a
problem. I was doing it over a network from home to the
office; it failed. Now I can't open it or even import any
objects to another .mdb. The message I am getting when
opening the .mdb is "The ms jet database could not find
the object msysdb.....

I have gotten in trouble before but always could get to
the objects. Is there a way to recover from this
problem. Of course, I have no recent backup.
