Repair of XF/Sic.gen virus in Excel spreadsheets

Eric Harris

To All,
I have found and removed the xf/Sic.gen macro virus from several
spreadsheets (with McAfee VirusScan 7 and the latest virus
definitions) but the spreadsheet has been modified to call the virus
macro. Thus when the spreadsheet is opened or closed Excel complains
about the missing macro which is set to automatically run. The Book1
template created by the virus has been deleted but I can't find where
to modify the spreadsheet itself to get rid of the call for the macro.
Any suggestions?

Look through defined names and delete Auto_Open and Auto_Close.

Thank you for your help. I had a couple spreadsheets that were
complicated enough that I didn't want to use the brute force method of
copying the worksheets to a new workbook.
